Steel, paint, and aural reflection. Dimensions variable.
The Spots Project marks a departure in my exploration of material witness and urban memory. The “spots” are steel silhouettes derived from the void in my work Under the Big Black Sun (2022), which itself emerged from marks and impromptu gestures found on the walls and streets of the city—traces of process made solid, preserved, and transformed.
With a nod to the Light and Space movement—and inspired by my short tenure as assistant to the estate manager at the Estate of the late, great Peter Alexander—the project explores the interplay of perception, reflection, and materiality. Fabricated in multiple scales from about 3" to 32", the pieces are conceived as modular studies in presence and absence—voids and solids that echo the presence of the eternal unknown. Each work carries a sense of artifact, aura, and mystery, offering a complex meditation on stillness in a chaotic world.
